July’s a party around here. There are tons of celebrations, including lots of birthdays. Mine was included in the mix, and I’m celebrating all week. Since I’m still in happy birthday party mode, today I’m sharing an unsorted list of all the things that are making me happy right now.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Yer a wizard, Harper. On the 4th of July, my daughter turned 9 and opted for a magical birthday checking out the Wizarding World of of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. With a family full of Potterheads, it was shocking it took us so long to experience. For any Harry Potter fan, it truly is a must do experience.
We rode the two themed rides and ate lunch at The Three Broomsticks. The kids loved having wands select them at Ollivander’s and racing through Hogsmeade practicing their spells.
Vintage-inspired Dresses on Amazon
Finding cute dresses is always a win. But cute dresses at reasonable prices that I can get in no time with Amazon Prime? There’s nothing better! I nabbed this 50’s style dress for a wedding and it’s divine. Super soft and easy to wear. The scalloped neckline is darling, too. It did need to be pressed when I took it out of the packaging, but that’s no biggie. Plus, it comes in lots of colors.
I had purchased it for a wedding, but Poppy got the flu (which she so kindly shared). Anybody want to invite me to a party? I’ve knocked out the one illness I’ll allow myself for 2018, so I should be set!
This is another dress I’ve purchased and loved. It’s another serious hot deal.
My Puppy
She’s a little naughty in her puppy-ness, but I’m over the moon for my sweet pup, Minnie. She’s a rescue so we aren’t exactly sure how old she is or her breed. But she is a good snuggler.
The Best Month Ever
June brought in my largest numbers for traffic since starting Clementine County. Some of the most popular posts were related to the fun happening this summer at Knott’s Berry Farm and also this Winnie the Pooh Freak Shake.
More Time with My Girls One on One
With the kick-off of summer, we’ve had more free time. It’s allowed for more opportunities to spend time with my daughters individually. Poppy & I had the best time at Knott’s on a Mommy & Me day. She had never ridden on the stagecoach before and is now obsessed.
Watermelon Smash
I was on the hunt for summer outside toys and games and found Watermelon Smash. You can nab it here. It’s similar to Pie in the Face without, you know, having a face full of whipped cream. Essentially, you spin to see how many times you’re required to “smash” the watermelon on your head. One unsuspecting player ends up wet when the watermelon splits upon his/her head.
It’s the perfect amount of water for fun. It’s enough to feel it, but not so much water that you’re soaked.
Promenade Pub
Local people, local fare, local beer–I’m sold. I’m loving the Promenade Pub on the Center Street Promenade in Downtown Anaheim. An yummy vegetarian sandwich, tater tots, and an Unsung beer is a pretty perfect combination. Add in the fact that it’s dog-friendly, and it’s the only place I want to eat.
Going Vegan
I was vegan as a kid (because I am now so old that 18 is considered “kid”). In solidarity with my sister, I’m working my way back towards vegan. I’ve been a vegetarian for 23 years now, so it’s not a huge transition. Actually, I’ve been vegan except for dessert for years. If you’re looking for a yummy vegan dessert recipe, check out this vegan chocolate chip cookies recipe.
It’s easier than it was back in the day. There are commercially available products. Many restaurants understand dietary preferences and are able to make accommodations. Plus, Knott’s now has Dole Whip so I’m set there too.
Summer
This summer I did a better job planning activities for the kids. The lazy days of summer are what we all need, but my girls also need something to do. Art classes, play dates, summer camps, and quick trips away have been sanity savers for us all. My youngest is going to daycare for short days three days a week so I can get a little work done, and she can play with her friends. The balance of activity and boredom has been a good mix this summer.
Added bonus for summer fun is opportunities for Parents’ Night Out. From HangTime hang-outs to Taco Tuesdays, I love chances to sneak away and have grown up conversations.

Looks like you’re having a great month (minus the flu). But I seriously love those dresses. I need a dress for an event and am going to check Amazon out now! Thanks for the tip!
It’s hard to balance the planning vs. free wheeling days of summer. Nothing wrong with scheduling a little fun with your favorite people so that Netflix and laundry don’t steal all of your time…at least for me anyway!
What a wonderful life you are leading! We love Harry Potter land (as my kids call it), we are dying to head back but thats a 15 hour drive or $800 flights for us.
