The Downtown Disney district offers resort guests and locals alike dining, shopping, and entertainment. In a current reenvisioning ,the west end of the district is experiencing significant remodels. It’s an exciting time to watch the area’s transformation. While some details are changing, many of the previously announced additions to the Downtown Disney are set to open in the coming months. This weekend, one such addition — Salt & Straw — opened their doors. Grab a spoon and dig into Downtown Disney’s newest and sweetest shop.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We are a family of dessert connoisseurs. Fortunately living in such close proximity to the Happiest Place on Earth means we have amazing flavors at our fingertips. Mickey-shaped concoctions, white chocolate-capped lemon soft serve, and the kitchen sink over at Clarabelle’s — each as sweet as the next.
Downtown Disney’s newest resident, Salt & Straw, brings artisanal ice cream flavors to the neighborhood.
In what I will call our inaugural visit because there will be repeat tastings, we were met with a wait time of approximately 30 minutes. My preschooler is accustomed to lines and the lure of sugar nearby kept her attention, although I must admit the time went quickly reading the flavor options again and again.
Flavors at the Downtown Disney District Location include:
Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons
Double Fold Vanilla
Chocolate Gooey Brownie
Strawberry Honey Balsamic
Honey Lavender
Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Pots of Gold & Rainbows
Sightglass Coffee Cashew Praline
Black Olive Brittle
Roasted Strawberry Coconut
Freckled Mint TCHO-colate Chip
Dandelion Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies & Cream
Additionally, three seasonal options were available titled “The Spooktacular Series.” Picture a scoop of The Great Candycopia as salted butterscotch with all of the best pieces of your kids’ trick-or-treat buckets mixed up inside. The Creepy Crawly Critters matcha ice cream is a different kind of treat — with chocolate covered crickets and coconut toffee-brittle mealworms. Bugs not your thing? The Mummy’s Pumpkin Spiced Potion is a safer holiday flavor.
Prior to ordering, sampling is available and encouraged. We opted to order a variety, all in the name of research. The Pots of Gold & Rainbows is filled marshmallows and breakfast cereal. With its sweet cream, it tastes like a childhood Saturday morning. The seasonal pumpkin was another selection made, and offered just the right amount of pumpkin to feel festive.
Always on the hunt for vegan treats, I loved that there were multiple vegan and gluten-free selections available on the menu. I selected the Roasted Strawberry Coconut which fits both dietary needs. Homemade strawberry ice cream is a favorite of mine, and one that I often make at home. But I’ve got a thing or two to learn about how roasting the strawberries adds a layer of depth through the caramelization. The crowd favorite, however, was the Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons. It’s no surprise it’s a top seller. Another top seller is the Honey Lavender, which we have yet to try.
Knowing that Salt & Straw partners with local farmers and producers to create in-season, farm-to-scoop-shop sweets makes it even more delicious.
The single scoops ran $6 each, with waffle cones and toppings extra. Pre-packed pints are available for purchase also, which would be ideal for resort guests looking for a sugar rush. Home delivery is also available.
Salt & Straw delivered what I’d expect from a Disney destination — unique flavors, high quality, and an experience to remember.

Disney magic and some tasty treats? That sounds like the perfect combo to me.
That honey lavender and black olive brittle sound absolutely delicious to me. Gotta love Disney magic
There isn’t a flavor I’d want to miss. Yum. Ice cream is a family favorite over here. 😉
I love they have vegan options. So many flavorful option definitely when I am in Downtown Disney I will be trying these scoops!
Salt & Straw is one of my favorite places. My son lives in Seattle and it’s a must have when we visit. My favorite flavor so far was a Caramel Corn on the Cob! My mouth weathers just thinking about it!
