Have the berry best visit to the Knott’s Taste of Boysenberry Festival with Kids. From food options to entertainment, this is your guide to the Farm fun!
While the theme park remains shuttered, Knott’s Berry Farm has offered unique outdoor dining and retail events. The “Taste of” events celebrated the flavors of the park in accordance with safety protocols. Each has been more delightful than the last, with Knott’s spearheading the theme park food festival trend.
In the Great Before, or the times pre-Covid, Knott’s Berry Farm hosted unique Seasons of Fun. A fan favorite, The Boysenberry Festival, celebrates the berry that started it all. The Knott’s family sold boysenberries at their roadside farm which lead to a chicken dinner restaurant. When that became wildly popular, Mr. Walter Knott began adding attractions to keep his diners entertained.
The newest food festival kicked off — The Taste of Boysenberry Festival.
As a Knott’s Ambassador, I was fortunate to be able to visit the event with my husband and our three daughters. Although our tickets are comped, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
The food, shopping, and entertainment is perfect for grown-ups, but it’s all the berry best time for families.
Kid’s Guide to Taste of Boysenberry Festival
My husband took our teens, and I got a little Mommy/Daughter time in with our youngest. To say she had a great day is the understatement of the year. Today I’m sharing tips and suggestions for your family visit to make the best memories with your family.
Foodie Guide for Kids
The only ticket you’ll need to enjoy the festivities is a Tasting Card, available online at Knotts.com.
- Adult Tasting Cards are $45 (plus tax)
- Junior Tasting Cards, ages 3-11 are $20 (plus tax)
A Junior Card includes 3 full-sized tastings, perfect for drink, meal, and dessert. The sizes are quite generous so it’s a great opportunity to share multiple dishes and sample even more of the 80+ boysenberry-infused dishes offered during the festival.
Kid-Friendly Dishes
Of my three kids, I’ve got one adventurous eater, one vegetarian, and one who sticks to traditional “kid food” items. So we were thrilled to see such a great variety with something for everyone.
As far as traditional kid foods, there are some great options. Here are some locations and Tasting Card options for kids:
- Wagon Wheel Pizza: Cheese Pizza Slice
- Calico Tater Tots: Mac & Cheese Bites over Tater Tots with a Boysenberry Sriracha Ketchup
- Silver Bullet/Dippin’ Dots: Boysenberry Dippin’ Dots
- Fireman’s BBQ: Elote with Boysenberry Mayo, Cotija Cheese, Butter, and Tortilla Strips
- Gourmet Churro Factory: “Hint of Lemon” Churro Bites with White Chocolate Sugar and a Boysenberry and Chocolate Dipping Sauce
- Chowhouse Ice Cream: Boyseberry and White Chocolate Chip Cookiewich with Vanilla Soft Serve; Boysenberry ICEE Float with Vanilla Soft Serve
- Judge Roy Bean: Boysenberry Smoothie
- Mine Stage Popcorn Cart: Popcorn with Boysenberry Butter
- Log Ride Funnel Cake: Fun Bun with Boysenberry Glaze
- Strictly On-A-Stick: Chicken Tenders with Boysenberry Aioli; Apple and Chicken Sausage Corn Dog with Boysenberry Mustard
- Hollywood Hits: Chocolate Chip Cookie Pizza Slice with Boysenberry Soft Serve
- Coasters Diner: Cheeseburger with a Boysenberry Onion Spread on a Brioche Bun; Red Velvet Bundt Cake with a Boysenberry Cream Cheese Icing
- Fiesta Dogs: Hot Dog with a Boysenberry Relish on a Boysenberry Bun
- Cantina: Chef Special Tamale with a Boysenberry Roja Sauce over Spanish Rice
- Cave Inn: Glass of Milk and Boysenberry Thumbprint Cookies; Kids Mocktail-Sparkling Cider and Ice Cream Float
As you can see the list is pretty extensive, and this is just what I pulled out thinking my own kids would try.
Picky Eaters? No problem!
Ask for toppings like relish on the side to make them even more kid friendly.
Kids Getting Hangry?
Hungry kids are not the most patient. Many food items are offered at multiple locations. Check your Tasting Card for additional spots. With the overlapping offerings, I’ve found the “Taste of” lines have greatly diminished since its original running.
Entertainment
Free Easter Egg Hunt
At the entrance, kids will receive a free card that will get them hopping onto a seasonal hunt throughout the park. Follow the clue to find posted eggs with a QR code. Scan the QR code on your phone for the next hint. Some familiarity with the park certainly helps, but isn’t required for the fun.
My little was ectastic when she found a clue with Calico’s long-time resident, Sad Eye Joe.
Keep hunting for each of the seven eggs. The final clue will include a surprise: the Easter Bunny has arrived at Knott’s for socially distanced photos.
The associate on duty also awarded us small pins to commemorate our hunt.
Cookie Decorating
One things you’ll see on the Tasting Card is the opportunity to decorate boysenberry-shaped sugar cookies. It’s a sweet activity that can be found at the Pie Kitchen.
Each cookie decorating kit includes: 2 cookies, icing, and frosting. You can also choose a fun straw with either Charlie Brown or Snoopy as an added surprise.
Use the tables next door to decorate your treats.
Theme Park Games
Carnival games are operating in Fiesta Village, Camp Snoopy, and the Boardwalk. One of our favorites is Woodstock’s Bird Bath as its a guaranteed winner.
During the Taste of Boysenberry Festival take advantage of this special game punch card and win a Boysenberry Squishmallow.
Knott’s Characters
Throughout Knott’s Berry Farm, you’ll see the characters of the park from safe distances. Look at the second story window of the pie shop to mix a special recipe with Lotta Leftovers. There are also characters above the saloon and retro DJ’s on the Boardwalk.
Musical Entertainment
Beloved Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies have returned to the Farm. In between in-person performances, catch a recorded performance on the main Calico stage.
Also announced, the Grammy winning Mariachi Divas are set to join the line-up at the Taste of Boysenberry Festival.
Kids will love both musical acts, plus the DJ in Fiesta Village is spinning to keep your little ones dancing.
Boysenberry Festival Decor
The most darling decor fills the park, making for perfect springtime photos. Giant bunnies and an oversized carrot patch have taken over Camp Snoopy.
Enjoy photo ops like the Easter Bunny display. Or snap your photos with the Peanuts Gang also in Camp Snoopy.
Even Snoopy is getting in the mix, dressed as the Easter Beagle.
Flowers bloom throughout the park making a great backdrop for food photos, but also for sharing the new season with your family.
Boysenberry Festival Shopping
Take advantage of the craft fair to support small businesses and find unique, handcrafted souvenirs for kids. We adored these little crocheted boysenberry colored friends.
There’s also a DIY Slime Station!
Grab offical festival merch like t-shirts or Boysenberry & Chocolate Jellybeans to remember your visit.
