Something is brewing, about to begin! The official trailer for Mary Poppins Returns is here!
In Disney’s MARY POPPINS RETURNS, an all-new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.
There are so many things that are making me squeal about the upcoming sequel to Mary Poppins. First, Emily Blunt as Mary looks practically perfect.
The casting across the board is insanely perfect. Lin-Manual Miranda as the lamplighter who brings actual and symbolic light to the town. My expectations are high walking into a Disney movie. I want a charming story, one that will yield conversations about kindness, hope, and finding the magic in every day. With “Jack” (played by Miranda), my heart is swelling in advance.
Mary Poppins Returns also stars Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks and Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks. Those familiar with the first film will remember the Banks children, who are now grown. Michael’s children will be played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, and Joel Dawson. Julie Walters serves as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; Meryl Streep is Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy; and Colin Firth is William Weatherall Wilkins from the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes, Jr., the retired chairman of the bank. Yes, DICK VAN DYKE!
Another moment of downright glee is seeing Angela Lansbury’s name appear on the cast list. Growing up, I watched Murder, She Wrote on the daily with my mom. Then she has the cupboard and castle as Mrs. Potts in the animated Beauty and the Beast. I couldn’t love her more. Lansbury will portray the Balloon Lady, a character from the PL Travers books.
We know the story of Mary Poppins as portrayed in the original film, yet there are several other books from which to pull material. Mary Poppins Returns takes detail from these additional stories. It’s a family rule that we read the books first, so I’ve got some reading to do! If you’re looking for more Poppins, grab the series here.
Mary Poppins Returns arrives in theaters everywhere on December 19th!

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to see this! Mary Poppins has always been one of my favorite movies, and Emily Blunt is PERFECT for the role.
I love Emily Blunt! I can’t wait to see this in the theaters! I loved Mary Poppins when I was a kid!
I just saw the trailer of this yesterday and I literally yelled at the hubs that there’s a new Mary Poppins movie. LOL. I can’t wait to see this especially that it’s Emily Blunt on the lead.
Wow. I have such fond memories from childhood from the Julie Andrews version. And can’t wait for this one. I love the casting, especially Lin Manuel Miranda as Jack and Dick Van Dyke in the role of the chairman!
I can’t wait to see this movie. I am really looking forward to taking my kids to it.
I am ashamed to say that I never even saw the first one that I can remember. I’m planning on seeing this one.
I cannot wait to see this! It’s going to be just as magical as the original. Love Emily Blunt too, She’s brilliant.
How wonderful that they have redone this classic! There is so much “junk” on TV and movies these days, and original movies and films getting redone that should NOT. But this looks like it would be amazing to see. And the fact Dick van Dyke is in it, at his age – after of course being in the original one – will make it truly memorable. I would love to catch an interview with him about how it feels going back to do this movie after so many years!
