Lion Guard The Exhibit at the Discovery Cube OC

Explore the Pride Lands at the new Lion Guard: The Exhibit at Discovery Cube in Santa Ana, CA.   Perfect for preschoolers, the exhibit is a hands-on, interactive way to explore, discover, and grow!

I received complimentary admission to facilitate this review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Do you have a fan of the Disney Junior hit show The Lion Guard at home? You won’t want to miss the all-new exhibit now open at Discovery Cube OC.

To explore the new exhibit at the science museum, I brought my younger two daughters.  Fans of the tv show and all things Disney, their interest was piqued.  My 9-year-old was also looking forward to experiencing some of her favorite exhibits from the museum’s permanent collection.  The cloud ring, rock wall, and pulley chair are some of her favorites.  The common thread for all of her favorites are the ability to interact with the exhibit.

Lion Guard: The Exhibit invoked the same hands-on approach to make it a one-of-a-kind experience!

Lion Guard: The Exhibit at the Discovery Cube

Our morning began with a ribbon cutting, opening the exhibit to the public.  Just outside the entrance to the exhibition hall is a great photo opportunity for families.  Practice your lion poses and snap photos to help you remember the fun!

Highlights of Lion Guard: The Exhibit

  • Explore the African Savanna
  • Learn about the animals of the Pride Lands
  • Train in the Lion Guard’s secret lair
  • Experience hands-on activities and interactive play through special missions
  • Discover teamwork and leadership traits

Weaving together the lovable Lion Guard characters with science and investigation, the presentation is perfect for kids aged 2-8.  Harper is 9 and happily participated in every station and also chased her younger sister around.  This is a great exhibit for movement!

We ran through the maze with foam covered hangings.  The texture and sound was so fun, and allowed us to pretend we were running through the savanna.  Poppy crawled through the Shadowland, checked herself out in funhouse mirrors, and frolicked onto the next exhibit.

We practice hand/eye coordination playing themed pinball and similar games. We matched animal dung to faux samples.  Because poop is always appealing to preschoolers.   Another big hit was the tree of life slide.

Tying in even more Lion Guard fun is in-depth exploration of the show’s main characters who work together to maintain the Circle of Life.  It’s a great opportunity to chat about the things that make us all different and how we’re all needed to make the world a better place.  Poppy loved roaring like Kion, the fierce leader of The Lion Guard .

Another hit was putting STEM to action and building a bridge while Beshte, the friendly hippo supervised.  The pieces are wedges, so it took some engineering on her part to arrive at the right fit.  She was so proud when she was finished and could cross her bridge.

She also got a bird’s eye view as she flew like Ono the egret.

Another bird flew over for some fun for the opening day also!  We got to see some friends from the Santa Ana Zoo in a special Animals of the African Savanna presentation on the Sunstage.   The owl pooped on the stage during the meet and greet…Poppy’s face shows her amusement.

Towards the center of the exhibit hall is a command center.  Swinging across the pond, rolling a rock up hill, checking out animal-inspired yoga poses, and using Rafiki’s stick were all great fun.  To bring some art into the exhibit, guests were invited to cave paint with water and paint brushes.

Like other exhibits in the Discovery Cube, Lion Guard: The Exhibit engages children’s natural curiosity.  It’s hands on, working large and fine motor, and let’s kids be the natural scientists that they are.  It’s a great place to roar, crawl, fly, build, and learn.

Don’t forget to share your photos using #LionGuard and #DiscoverCubeOC.

  • I do not recall that one, was it to revive the poppy? As for the other one, as long as the powers at be, make tons of money from poppy it might be difficult to stop it. But, and here is a but, if Taliban says that opium is forbidden by their version of religion, then if they have power they might stop it. It seems that they have rebounded and have become political force worthy making compromises? We should not forget all the public hangings and other types of executions when Taliban ruled. I also remember northern tribes of Afghanistan (supported by Russia) losing their fight against Taliban. Russia was worried about Taliban”s version of Islam spreading to Russia. The only good thing about Taliban was no production of poppies. Pakistan seemed to be the main Taliban supporter, and now it”s not? My thoughts are: What”s changed. Who funds Taliban, they seem to show their men dressed in proper army clothes. Is ISIS cooperating with Taliban? To many questions, no answers. —– From the moderator: Poppies in Afghanistan are off-topic here. Please take any further discussion on the subject to the Moveable Feast. Thank you.
