LA County Fair

Take a spin on the Ferris Wheel

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of LA County Fair for IZEA Worldwide. All opinions are 100% mine.

Since 1922, the LA County Fair has been delighting attendees with attractions, food, and fun! Check out what’s POPPING at the 2019 LA County Fair!

My darling niece Corinne is headed back east for her next big adventure. Before she moves out of LA, she’s crossing off all of her favorite LA spots of her list. To make sure she got to experience all of LA in a super fun way, I took her and my youngest daughter to the 2019 LA County Fair.

Dodger fans feel the love at the LA County Fair

This year’s theme “Fair Goes Pop” highlights the fun of pop culture to the fairplex with bright colors, unique experience, and a whole lot of memories.

First time at the LA County Fair? This guide will give you an overview of what to see, eat, and do.

What to do at the LA County Fair

The fairgrounds are broken down into 6 zones, that form an easy to navigate circle.

The Farm and Gardens

A county fair must-see are the animals, who are found in the Farm and Gardens section of the fair.

Things not to miss:

  • Cow-milking demonstrations
  • Kickin’ Country Stage
  • Heritage Mission
  • The Little Red Barn
  • The Bug Barn

The animals were a HUGE hit with my little one this year. A modern twist on a petting zoo, the LA County Fair has hands-on activities like roping hay barrel sheep, rocking horse pony rides, and informational sessions where kids can learn all about the animals at the farm. Be on the lookout for the pig races, too!

Another huge hit was The Bug Barn. Giant animatronic critters fill the adorable forest-y area. You’ll learn all about bugs, play games like Bug Tic Tac Toe, and take a scoot around on a toddler-sized ladybug.

Grandstand

A treat for your senses, the LA County Fair rocks the summer with concerts, shows, and demonstrations.

Things not to miss:

  • Wild West Show
  • End of Summer Concert Series
  • DIY Design Studio and Culinary Kitchen

From Pitbull to Chicago, the LA County Fair offers hot ticket shows. Separate-ticket concerts are just part of the fun. Check out up and coming bands, battle of the bandas, and even a Lucha Libre match.

Fun Zone

The classic fair feel fills the air in the Fun Zone. Carnival rides, lots of neon lights, and yummy fair food can be found as you stroll Magnolia and Juniper Streets.

Take a spin on the Ferris Wheel

Things not to miss:

  • The Giant Slide
  • The Ferris Wheel

Scan your way onto some super fun fair attractions. You can purchase a wristband for unlimited rides for $50. Note: all rides require riders to be 36” or taller.

If you’re looking to save time, add a Fun Pass to your day to skip the lines.

Dole Whip is magical

Corinne had never had a Dole Whip before, so we stopped at the first stand we saw. Poppy was thrilled to show her the pineapple swirl ropes!

The Hill

Stroll the soft rolling hills of The Hill for a charming look at what’s popped up in LA.

Planning her visit to The Great Outdoors at the LA County Fair

Things not to miss:

  • L.A. Pop Architecture — Celebrate the skylines and unique architecture that make SoCal shine
  • Flower and Garden Pavilion — Inspiring flora and fauna with Pops of Color
  • EATS Food Court
  • America’s Great Outdoors

My kindergartener adored America’s Great Outdoors. Celebrating Smokey the Bear’s 75th anniversary, the forest rangers have prepared a great series of activities to engage children. Pick up a map and collect stamps as you learn about fire prevention, the local Native Americans, and conservation. Strike it rich with complimentary gold panning.

Downtown Fairplex

The Downtown Fairplex offers guests tons of opportunities to shop and learn with numerous Expo Halls.

Things not to miss:

  • Expo Halls
  • NHRA Motorsports Museum

Beating the heat is a must for a full-day of fun. During the hottest part of the day, we headed over to the Downtown Fairplex. There are great indoor expo halls featuring The Imagination Factory, Marvel characters, and eSports Gaming World. Poppy loved seeing the giant inflatable Picachu and Mario characters.

Clocktower Plaza

The Clocktower Plaza may be small in size, but the pop music is over-the-top awesome.

Things not to miss:

  • Clocktower Stage
  • George Lopez’s Chingon Kitchen

What to Eat at the LA County Fair

It’s not a fair visit without loading up on yummy eats and treats. The $6.50 Pop Menu is a great way to get a variety of fair foods at a great price. Most items include a 16-ounce drink, too!

Pick up a $6.50 Pop Menu pamphlet at Guest Relations to be able to easily navigate the foodie finds at the fair.

Must eat fair food: Rainbow Pop Grilled Cheese

We were in love with all the brightly colored foods at the fair, like the Rainbow Pop Grilled Cheese Sandwich at The Dog House. We want to eat all the rainbow foods so we also made sure we got a Fruity Pebbles covered ice cream cone.

Vegetarian and Vegan Options at the LA County Fair

I found a veggie dog included on the Hot Dog on a Stick and a garden salad at Enzo’s Pizzeria. In addition to the $6.50 Pop Menu, I did see other vegan and vegetarian-friendly food stands throughout the fair.

Deep-fried foods:

In addition to classics like caramel apples, hot dogs, and turkey legs, make sure to leave room for all things deep-fried like:

  • Deep Fried Strawberry Uncrustable
  • Deep Fried Pineapple
  • Deep Fried Pecan Pie
