Fresh veggies, cold cuts, and a smear of sauce — how do you make the perfect sandwich? Local Anaheim restaurants have perfected the art of the sandwich. Find a few of my favorite sandwich spots around Anaheim, California.
Since we’re talking about perfect, we need to start with the best pb & j. Creamy peanut butter and red raspberry preserves, cut diagnolly. This specific “recipe” was perfected by my nephew Dominic and has since became the standard sandwich in the family. It’s my honor to let you on this secret family recipe. However, it’s even more fun sharing places around Anaheim that elevate the sandwich game to a real art.
Sandwiches as an art form? Mmm hmm. It’s only the sandwich that has been transformed from an assemblyline bologna into a meal fitting of date night.
Best Sandwich Spots in Anaheim
Windsor Brown’s
211 W Center Street Promenade
Anaheim, CA 92805
Now open in Downtown Anaheim, Windsor Brown’s is a specialty sandwich, beer, and wine shop featuring Boar’s Head meats and locally sourced artisan breads. The collaboration between Scott Windsor of Windsor Homebrew Supply and Greg Brown of Beachwood BBQ is perfect for those who are passionate about their meals and their beer.
Order the Roast Beastly with roast beef and horseradish mayo or the vegetarian-friendly Garden Variety with panini-roasted portbollo mushroom and sundried tomato pesto. The outdoor patio offers a relaxing respite, but I have to admit I’m partial to the indoor seating as the music playing is as carefully curated as the menu.
Cortina’s Italian Market
2175 W Orange Ave
Anaheim, CA 92804
Eat like a local and grab a 10-inch sandwich from Cortina’s Italian Market and Delicatessen. The family-owned spots has been serving Anaheimians and visitors in the know since the 1960’s. The causal vibes and fresh ingredients, like the bread made in house daily, make it the place where you want everyone to know your name…and your order. The Special Sandwich comes with Italian cold cuts and provolone, but the meatball sub is also a great choice.
While I’m sure there won’t be leftovers, you can enjoy the tastes of Cortina’s at home by shopping at the deli next door. It’s a go-to for olives and stinky cheeses. I wouldn’t complain if a few macarons made their way into my order.
Black Sheep GCB
440 S. Anaheim Blvd.
Anaheim, CA 92805
The Anaheim Packing House is a foodie delight. Stroll the multi-level historic citrus packing plant which has been converted into an artisanal food hall. It’s where you’ll find Black Sheep GCB, short for Grilled Cheese Bar. Pair the classic with tomato soup or try one of the unique recipes like the K-Melt with Pepperjack, Gojuchang Aioli, jalapenos, and Marinated Korean Bulgogi Beef.
THH Sandwiches
1201 S Euclid St.
Anaheim, CA 92802
Pho gets a lot of love when discussing Vietnamese cuisine available locally, but Banh Mi sandwiches are a comfort food not to overlook. Try a grilled pork sandwich or the house special with cold cuts & pate from THH Sandwiches at their Anaheim location.
While I have the secret recipe to the best peanut butter and jelly, there are numerous spots around town that have perfected the sandwich. We don’t want to keep it secret so make sure to share these restaurants with family and friends.
